News and media - press releases: Accelerating the realization of a safe, productive and smart and clean job site of the future

Komatsu (President: Hiroyuki Ogawa) has developed a tracking system that visualizes information on attachments for hydraulic excavators. As a response to the needs of customers who manage multiple attachments, such as at demolition sites, we aim to introduce it to the domestic market in FY2025. In addition, this system will be exhibited at the 6th Construction and Surveying Productivity Improvement Exhibition (CSPI-EXPO 2024) to be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture for three days from May 22 (Wed) ~ 24 (Fri), 2024.

Tracking System Overview

Tracking System Overview

This system consists of a tracking device attached to the attachment and a dedicated app developed in-house by Komatsu. The app allows you to know where attachments are located and when they're uptime, making it easier to manage multiple attachments. In addition, depending on the operating time of the attachment, maintenance notifications are sent at the appropriate time, which helps prevent failures due to lack of maintenance. By reducing the number of man-hours required to manage attachments and supporting daily maintenance, we contribute to improving productivity at our customers' sites.

In addition, when the system is introduced to the domestic market in FY2025, we plan to add a function to semi-automatically set the optimal hydraulic excavator operating conditions for each attachment through this system. This reduces the current manual work required by operators to set the operating conditions of the excavator when replacing attachments, and contributes to the prevention of machine and attachment failures due to incorrect settings.

This system has completed a demonstration test at the customer's site in October 2023. In the future, we will gradually introduce the system to the rental market, collect information on operational data from customers' sites, and further improve safety, convenience, and work performance in preparation for introduction in the domestic market in FY2025.

Komatsu has adopted the medium-term management plan "DANTOTSU Value – Together, to "The Next" for sustainable growth through the Dantotsu Value (creation of customer value that creates a virtuous cycle of improving profitability and solving ESG issues), we will step into the next stage toward the future workplace and aim to create new value in order to pass on a sustainable future to the next generation.
